Advisor/Senior Advisor (Comms)

The role

We are looking for an Advisor with strong experience in strategic or corporate communications and hands-on media relations, ideally gained in tech, high-growth or similarly fast-moving environments. You will be confident working directly with founders and senior leaders, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and skilled at shaping and landing clear, compelling narratives in the media.

This role suits someone who combines sharp judgement with a bias to action. You will take real ownership of client work, lead media and communications delivery day to day, and play an important role in shaping how Founders Comms works with clients as the business grows.

Working closely with the co-founders and wider team, you will: 

  • Develop and deliver strategic communications and media engagement programmes that support clients’ commercial objectives, growth plans and moments of change.
  • Advise founders and leadership teams on reputation, media positioning, stakeholder engagement and messaging.
  • Lead media strategy and execution across accounts, including identifying story opportunities, shaping narratives, pitching proactively and managing press relationships.
  • Act as a day-to-day point of contact for journalists, building credibility and trust on behalf of clients.
  • Lead day-to-day client delivery, managing multiple workstreams with clarity, momentum and attention to detail.
  • Translate complex or technical issues into clear, newsworthy stories that resonate with different audiences.
  • Manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including investors and 
  • Spot opportunities to add value for clients, proactively shaping ideas and recommendations rather than waiting for briefs.
  • Contribute to the growth of the agency, supporting business development activity and helping evolve our services and ways of working.

The candidate will:

  • Bring strong experience in strategic or corporate communications, with a clear track record in media relations.
  • Be a confident, credible media operator, experienced in securing and managing coverage across national, trade and online outlets.
  • Demonstrate sound commercial judgement, with the ability to align media and communications activity to wider business objectives.
  • Have a proven record of delivery, including leading media moments, launches or reactive issues work.
  • Write and communicate to a high standard, shaping sharp messages, press materials and narratives for different audiences.
  • Be well connected within the startup, scaleup or tech ecosystem, with a strong understanding of how media can support growth and reputation.
  • Be highly organised and detail-oriented, able to manage competing priorities without losing quality.
  • Show a proactive, self-starting mindset and enjoy taking responsibility.
